Is Jesus God? Part 3

In the very Gospels, Jesus has been called the Son of God by numerous credible sources within the bible. This post will show Jesus is truly the divine Son of God who deserves worship!

Jesus was called the Son of God by:

The Father: Matthew 3:17, 17:5; Mark 1:11

Matthew 3:17 (NKJV) - And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Jesus Himself: Mark 14:62

Mark 14:62 (NKJV) - Jesus said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

Angels: Luke 1:35

Luke 1:35 (NKJV) - And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

John the Baptist (Prophet): John 1:34

John 1:34 (NKJV) - And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

Jesus' Apostles: Matthew 14:33, 16:16; John 1:49, John 20:28

Matthew 14:33 (NKJV) - Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

Martha: John 11:27

John 11:27 (NKJV) - She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

A Roman Soldier: Mark 15:39

Mark 15:39 (NKJV) - So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”

Demons: Matthew 8:29; Mark 3:11; Luke 4:41

Mark 3:11 (NKJV) - And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God.”

All these sources above identified Jesus as the true divine Son of God.

Furthermore, Jesus introduced a new covenant in the New Testament that replaced what God had already established in the Old Testament. This proves that Jesus is God as fulfilled a very important prophecy from the book of Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 (NKJV) - “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

The books Matthew 26:28, Mark 14:24, Luke 22:20, and 1 Corinthians 11:25 records Jesus introducing this New Covenant. Now the only one who could do this, who could introduce a New Covenant to replace the Old Covenant, a Covenant God had already established, would be God. When Jesus did this, He showed His authority and that He was God in the flesh.

In Mark 14:63-64, John 10:33, and John 19:7 the Jews tried to kill Jesus because of His claim to be equal with God. The high priests at that time had alot of knowledge regarding the Old Testament, so every reference Jesus made to the Old Testament regarding the divine roles of God, the Jews knew he was claiming to be God (Yahweh).

Mark 14:61-62 - But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” Jesus said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

Hearing these words from Jesus, the Jews started condeming him to death. It obviously was not a blasphemy for someone to claim to just be a prophet, but it was a blasphemy for someone to claim to be God. Therefore, this is the reason why the Jews tried to kill Him on multiple occasions, and eventually had Him crucified.

Let's look at some more sources that claimed Jesus is God:

The Apostle John said all things were created through Jesus: John 1:1-3, 14

The Apostle Peter said that Jesus is God and is the Judge of the living and the dead. Additionally, Peter said that angels, authorities, and all powers are subjected to Him: 2 Peter 1:1, Acts 10:42, and 1 Peter 3:22. These verses are clear on the divinity of Christ the Lord.

The Apostle Paul said Jesus is God and all things were created by Jesus through Jesus, and for Jesus: Romans 9:5, Colossians 1:15-20, and Titus 2:13.

Romans 9:5 - of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

Jude implied Jesus is God: Jude 1:4

Let's Look at some of Jesus' disciples that prayed to Him as God:

Stephen prayed to Jesus: Acts 7:59

Acts 7:59 - And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

Additionally, Paul also talked about praying to Jesus as Lord: Romans 10:9-13.

One of the main reasons that the disciples pray to Jesus is because Jesus told them that he will do whatever you ask in His name according to John 14:13.

John 14:13 - And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
